How to Add Your Event

The instructions on this page can be used to submit events only to the following local events calendars:

Atlanta, Baltimore, Central Iowa, Chicago, Connecticut, Denver, Los Angeles, New York Metro, San Francisco, and SE New England.

Follow these steps to add your event:

  1. Make certain that the event you want to publicize follows the AFSC events calendar guidelines.

  2. Contact the moderator of the calendar to which you want to post your event and let them know about your event. Once you submit your event, the moderator will have to approve it before it is posted online.

  3. If you do not already have an account with the calendar system, please create one. (How to create a new account.)

Go to www.afsc.org/calendar and select a local calendar under the first drop-down menu at the top right-hand side of the page. Then click add event under the calendar options. You will be asked for your user name and password.

  4. Next you will see the form in which to enter the details of your event. Be sure you are adding your event to the correct calendar. The name of the calendar will appear in the introduction at the top of the page. Follow the guide below to fill out the form:

    Title
Event titles are limited to forty characters. Be succinct, but perspicuous. Avoid overuse of articles and punctuation marks. Use mainly words that convey what constitutes the event and leave the details for the description part of the listing. For example, write

    instead of

A Vigil on Monday for Human Rights at the Friends Center

    Location
Use the first line for the street address and the second for city and state. You can also enter the venue name (e.g. hotel, school, etc.) in the first line. Separate it and the address with a comma.

    Web Link
The web link (URL) in this field must be entered beginning with http://. That is, write http://www.afsc.org, not www.afsc.org. Otherwise the link will not function.

This link can be to a web page that provides more information about your event. It can also link to a document, such as a PDF, that is already online.

    Contact Name
The contact name can be substituted with a phone number.

    Contact Email
The contact email entered in this field becomes hidden and it appears as a link that reads "Email this contact." You can enter only one email in this field.

    Sponsored by AFSC
Place a check in the box if your event is sponsored/co-sponsored by AFSC.

    List other sponsor(s)
Enter the names of other sponsors, separated with a comma.

    Event Description
There is no limit on the number of characters you can type in the space provided; however, you should keep the description concise.

Note: Additional emails can be added under the event description, but they will not be hidden.

    Date
Set the beginning date of your event.

    Number of days
If your event continues daily and does not span more than fourteen days, select the number of days.

    Start time
Set the hour in the first drop-down menu, and set the minutes in the second one.

    End time
If there is not end time for your event, select "No end time." It is the first option in the menu.

    All day event
If you do not wish to set the time at all, check this box.

    Repeat
In addition to the number of days, you can set your event to repeat according to the options in this drop-down menu. In the second line you can also define the number of times you wish for the series to repeat, or set a date when you want the series to end.

  5. When you are done, click "Process event" at the bottom of the form. You will be informed by email when your event is approved.

Write your questions and comments to events@afsc.org.
