Federal Building, Main and Market street, downtown Akron
Congress approved Food Stamp cuts of $5 billion effective November 1.
More cuts proposed: $39 billion over 10 years by U.S. House, $4.1 billion over the same period by U.S. Senate.
- 1 in 6 Ohio families don’t know where their next meal will come from.
- 47 million Americans depend on Food Stamps for basic survival.
- 1.8 million Ohioans live in poverty.
If Congress can bailout banks and give tax breaks to the rich – they can preserve and expand Food Stamps.
These proposed cuts are indecent, indefensible and immoral!
Food Stamps Save Lives! Reduce Hunger, Not Food Stamps!
Don't balance the budget on the backs of the hungry!
Congress will take up finalizing the Farm Bill (containing the Food Stamp program) in January. We need to let them know that creating more hungry people is not acceptable.
Vigil to Stop Food Stamp Cuts!
