Public hearing on saving our federal safety net
Attend and Endorse Public Hearing on Saving Our Federal Safety Net
April 4 marked the 45th anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King., Jr. Here's what he had to say about our national priorities:
"The security we profess to seek in foreign adventures, we will lose in our decaying cities. The bombs in Vietnam explode at home – they destroy the hopes and possibilities for a decent America."
-- Martin Luther King, Jr.
It is in this spirit of speaking out and working toward more sane and humane budget priorities that we announce this event:
PUBLIC HEARING ON SAVING OUR FEDERAL SAFETY NET
Federal spending cuts to education, food & nutrition, housing, health care, employment, Veterans programs, transportation and other social “safety net” programs will impact millions of Americans, including thousands in Summit County. Other proposals call for cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. There are alternatives to reducing the federal deficit, including ending the 2001-2003 tax cuts to the wealthiest citizens and corporate tax loopholes. Further cuts to the Pentagon could also be made.
Attend the public hearing. Share your views. Hear from our federal and state public officials.
Saturday, June 1 / 10:30 am – 12:30 pm
St. Paul AME Church, 1250 S. Hawkins Ave., Akron
Please mark your calendar to attend.
Also, please approach any organization(s) you're connected with for their endorsement. Deadline is April 16. As an endorser, your organization's name will be listed on all publicity and a representative will be assured an opportunity to testify.
