Keeping Politics Out of Iowa’s Courts

Friday, December 17, 2010 - 11:45am

Crossroads: A Project about Civility

A monthly gathering of Interfaith Alliance of Iowa.  An opportunity to learn, to participate in civil dialogue, and gather with progressive people of faith and goodwill.

“The loss of the Supreme Court Justices is the unfortunate but direct result of nearly $1 million of negative campaign ads against our courts financed by out-of-state extreme special interest groups. We are concerned about the precedent that has been set tonight and what this means for the influence of money and politics on our judicial system.” From Justice Not Politics Co-Chairs, Sally Pederson & Joy Corning (Nov. 3, 2010)

We know Bob Vander Plaats and his extremist, out-of-state friends are not done misleading the public.  Where do we go from here to restore our state’s reputation and our fair and impartial courts in the future? How do we stop the influence of money and special interest groups from attacking the integrity of our courts?  This Crossroads is one of the most important we have hosted… ever.  We hope you will attend so that you can understand how you can join other fair-minded Iowans to strengthen this fight to protect Iowa’s excellent judicial system in the next two years.

Speakers:

Sally Pederson, Co-Chair, Justice Not Politics; Former Lt. Governor of Iowa

Carolyn Jenison, Executive Director, One Iowa
