Joseph Gerson “The Case Against America’s Militarized ‘Pacific Century’," at the Howard Zinn Memorial Lectures

Tuesday, November 22, 2011 - 4:00pm - 5:00pm

As part of the Howard Zinn Memorial Lectures, Joseph Gerson will speak on "The Case Against America’s Militarized ‘Pacific Century’ – Real Economic Security and Preventing Another War"

Having announced its military, economic and diplomatic “pivot” to Asia and the Pacific as it withdraws from Iraq and “winds down” the war in Afghanistan, the Obama Administration is engaged in an aggressive campaign to contain China. It is expanding and deepening alliances with countries surrounding China, adding to its hundreds of military bases and installations from Korea and Japan to Australia and Diego Garcia, and pressing its Trans Pacific Partnership free trade agreement designed to offset China’s growing regional influences and further open Chinese markets on U.S. and Japanese terms.

Joseph Gerson, Director of Programs for AFSC in New England, was the lead organizer of the Peace in Asia and the Pacific Conference held at American University and recently spoke at the Northeast Asian Peace and Development conference in Dalian, China and the Moana Nui counter-APEC conference in Honolulu.
