Citizens Alert is Chicago's most experienced police accountability organization working for systemic change in law enforcement agencies and advocating for victims of excessive force or police misconduct. It was Mary and her organization that consistently pressured the Chicago Police Department to reopen investigations that ultimately led to former  detective and commander on Burge's firing and imprisonment. Burge was convicted in June of 2010 and sentenced in January 2011 for torturing more than 200 criminal suspects between1972 and 1991in order to force confessions. Our own Betty Benson worked tirelessly by her side.

In this day of mass incarceration and “lock down America” the work of Citizens Alert has never been more timely.
“We believe that law enforcement agencies are the servants of the public and that the public must hold these agencies to the highest standard of trust and integrity”.
