Basket of Sorrows: Candle of Hope - Vigil for a Faithful Budget

Basket of Sorrows: Candle of Hope - Vigil for a Faithful Budget

Monday, November 21, 2011 - 10:30pm to 11:30pm

Basket of Sorrows – Light of Hope

On November 21st at 5:30pm, as part of a national Faithful Budget action, Pittsburgh will hold a vigil at the Occupy site to call on Congress to create a just and compassionate federal budget.

The report by the Congressional “super committee” is due around Thanksgiving and there are concerns that cuts to major safety net programs with be on the chopping block. Now is the time for people to stand in opposition to these cuts.

At the vigil we will ask each participant to take a card and write the name of someone they know who has been impacted by the budget cuts and how they have been impacted. Each name will be read aloud and put in a basket. At the same time each person will take a candle of hope and light it.

We are planning a future action to visit with Senator Casey’s staff to take the cards and ask him to stand firm on cuts to human needs.
