April 20th - May 3rd
The committee of the Chicago Palestine Film Festival proudly announces the selections and schedule for the 11th annual film festival in Chicago this spring! This year’s lineup includes various films from Palestinian and other international filmmakers. The 2012 Chicago Palestine Film Festival will take place from April 20th through May 3rd at the Gene Siskel Film Center.
We’ll open the festival with Man without a Cell Phone, by Sameh Zoabi. Zoabi, writer and director, was chosen by Filmmaker magazine as one of the 26 “New Faces of Film” in 2006. Mr. Zoabi’s films have also been recognized by the Cannes and Sundance film festivals. Also screening opening night is the thought provoking and ironic short No Way Through. Prior to the films we invite you to join us for our opening night reception, starting at 6.30 pm at the Gene Siskel.
On Sunday, April 22, Enemy Alien, a documentary about imprisoned human rights activist Farouk Abdel-Muhti, will be presented in conjunction with WBEZ’s Global Activism Expo 2012. This powerful documentary is directed by Konrad Aderer whose grandparents were interned in the Japanese American imprisonment during World War 2. Mr. Aderer shares his special insights and makes a connection between the plight of Palestinians in the US and Israel and the victims of this troubling era in US history.
Closing night we will have a special screening event generously sponsored by “The Khaled & Noha E. Taha Foundation". Director and producer Dan Tanz will join us in person to present his newest film Triumph67, a journey of grief and recovery in the Palestinian Diaspora. Tanz employs his craft to tell the semi-autobiographical story of brothers Mohammed and Sami, and a romance of days past.
The screenings will be held at Chicago’s premier venue for independent and world cinema,Gene Siskel Film Center, located at 164 N. State St. For a complete schedule and synopses of this year’s films visit www.siskelfilmcenter.org/palestinefilmfest2012.
