CRU Mission and Vision

Current Programs:

  • Criminal Justice & Anti–Death Penalty

The Criminal Justice and Anti–Death Penalty Program challenges both the morality and the effectiveness of the "tough on crime" mentality. The program works to reduce and eventually eliminate the tendency to throw people in jail as a "solution" to the problems of crime and violence.

  • Economic Justice

The Economic Justice Program supports economic rights for people at the bottom of the economic ladder, focusing on community-based economic development and programs addressing welfare rights, housing/homelessness, and other economic justice issues.

  • Immigrant and Refugee Rights

The Immigrant and Refugee Rights Program works to defend the human rights of immigrants by supporting immigrant-led organizations, advocating for constructive policy change, and increasing public understanding of the challenges faced by immigrant communities.

  • Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Rights & Recognition

The LGBT Program supports faith-based organizing for LGBT rights and recognition; education and networking on the impact of criminalization on LGBT people, especially youth and people of color; and lifting up the voice of LGBT communities in movements for peace and demilitar-ization.

  • Mexico-U.S. Border

The Mexico-U.S. Border Program works to change private and public policies affecting communities along the Mexico-U.S. border, through public education, policy impact efforts, and support to our grassroots partner organization, the Comité Fronterizo de Obrer@s (Border Workers Committee).

  • Native American/Native Peoples

The Native American/Native Peoples program works to increase the visibility and viability of Native American communities through the defense and affirmation of Indian rights. We are refining the focus for our national program.
