WHO: Young people (ages 18-30) interested in organizing skills for peace and social justiceWHAT: AFSC Apprenticeship Program, a four-month part-time program featuring skill building and hands-on experience in organizing in Chicago on global and local issues.
WHEN: February 17, 2010 June 16, 2010; Apprentice must commit to attend workshops every Wednesday from 10am-4pm (see syllabus), plus 14 hours of program work per week.

The Chicago office of the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) seeks motivated young people (18-30 years old) with an interest in a non-profit career or a passion for peace and social justice issues to apply to our new AFSC Apprenticeship Program. This experience will go beyond just an internship -- it is an opportunity to receive skills training, participate in day-to-day operations of non-profit organization and to work with mentors that have over 100 years combined experience in peace and justice organizing in the Chicago area.
At the end of the four month program, participants will have deepened their understanding of peace and social justice, will have a broad knowledge of the inner workings of the non-profit world and will have gained critical thinking and analytical reasoning skills that will be attractive to future employers for their ability to innovate and be creative.
Candidates for the program should have in interest in peace and justice, enjoy working in groups, have a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, strong writing skills and a flexible attitude.
The AFSC Apprenticeship Program is offered between February 17 - June 18, 2010. Participants will be expected to intern at AFSC 2 days a week and attend a Skills Training session each Wednesday from 10am-4pm (see syllabus). Internships are available in programs focusing on Peacebuilding, Middle East education and advocacy, Youth and Militarism, and Immigrant and Refugee rights work in Chicago. A monthly stipend for transportation will be offered to all accepted apprentices.
