During the Eyes Wide Open visit to Denver and Colorado Springs in October 2006, thousands of people walked amid the rows of empty boots representing 2,744 military deaths and hundreds of shoes representing over 600,000 Iraqi civilian casualties. Here are some of their thoughts regarding the tragic loss of life in Iraq and their hopes for peace.

"One is left with the horrible feeling that war settles nothing; that to win a war is as disastrous as to lose one." Agatha Christie

Those of us who are silent must speak out. We must join together and do whatever is in our power to work for peace, with love.

Humanity is not expendable. Pray for Peace.

God bless you all. May we work for a world without war.

I lived through Vietnam and it is sad seeing this happening again. Very moving, Thank you.

Never thought I’d have to see all this again.

Thank you! Thank you so much for your sacrifice for this country and I’m so so sorry, God bless.

I feel like these people’s spirits are shown in these boots. An overwhelming sadness.
* * *
I pray for your suffering to end. I am so sorry for the loss of your loved ones and homes of your children. This is not fair.
* * *
Peace on earth. Good will towards men.

"People are astounded when they see the number of boots. They have heard the number but to see it is so powerful. When you realize there should be somebody standing in each of these boots you realize what a loss this really is."
Marq Anderson, Eyes Wide Open Tour Manager

Thinking of all these boots filled with 2,744 living humans, doing all of the things humans do. How can we ever justify the world being robbed of any contributing human?

Sarah and everyone who was involved in bringing Eyes Wide Open to Denver, a personal thank you from me.

Dreams and Nightmares brought me to tears. I’m at a loss of what to say or feel. I’m left with a broken heard but inspiration to stand up for peace.

Write labels on the upper sides of boxed also. 4 sides like ‘AZ’, ‘CA’.

Stirring.

Thank you. Very powerful.

Empty boots say so much: Soldiers that died for their country, family and friends that have lost fathers and mothers and children. Our children will never come back. How can our Government use our children’s lives to get elected?? Bring our kids home!
* * *
Even if the war is wrong, please support our troops. God Bless.

My heart goes out the sight of this display. Any occasion to view such loss, grief and waste brings feelings for me that I fear our leaders do not share. If only!

Bush lied. My brothers-in-arms died.

This is the most powerful program I have experienced to make us understand the cost of the war.

Never to be forgotten – Eyes Wide Open says these are loved ones – this is a horrible way to have disagreement – God made us one!

Eyes Wide Open is a graphic experience. God bless all who are fighting and their families and the Iraqi people.
* * *
Bush’s war for oil – not peace.
* * *
God keep the people of the earth.

Colorado Springs City Council was WRONG in the way they responded to the ‘Eyes Wide Open’ exhibit. After seeing these boots and understanding the true cost of this war everyone should be resolved to do whatever is necessary to bring and end to this war. Everyone should demand to end this war with the best outcome possible. And by the way, Mayor Rivera, this is not cutting and running; it is being responsible to our service members.

While others go about their business, I come here this foggy day to do my business - support you. Saw a button that says ‘Wars undo Mothers’ work.’ Get this to sell.
