This spring, AFSC was invited to show some of our digital stories from “Borders Lifted, Voices Raised” and provide background information on immigration issues to parents at a bilingual middle school in Boulder. The bilingual school has confronted racist threats to students recently. The invitation to AFSC was part of a parent and administrative effort to raise consciousness about immigration issues.
When I first heard about the Campus Organizing Conference, I must admit I was a bit skeptical. I have attended numerous conferences related to working for peace and justice in Palestine/Israel, and, while enjoyable, I never felt that I learned anything from the conferences that could be applied in a practical manner. Happily, this was not the case at the Campus Organizing Conference held by the American Friends Service Committee on March 5th in Washington, DC.
The Alternative Jobs and Resources Fair is a one day event, where you can find information on resources available to youth and families in New Orleans. Thinking about a job with a social change group?, always dreamed of a non-traditional job?, haven’t decided what fields of work you want to explore?, or need information about training programs? Come hear speakers, watch performances designed to entertain and teach, visit the resource tables, attend a workshops on job skills, get information about work and job opportunities.
