Austinites Report on the U.S. Social Forum

On August 19, 2010 at the Texas State Employees Union premises in Austin, Ann Lewis, Judith Rosenberg and Josefina Castillo reported on their experiences at the U.S. Social Forum held in Detroit in June. Judith and Josefina are key organizers with Austin Tan Cerca de la Frontera, originally an AFSC program now becoming independent.

The Best Thing About the U.S. Social Forum

By Judith Rosenberg

The best thing about US Social Forum is that for 5 days you don't consume news reports or media versions of reality.  You just look and listen around you and there is the news and there is reality - 15,000 vibrant, squirming people from all over the country, and beyond, packed into the giant Cobo Convention Center in Detroit and other hot spots around town.
