Learn how Lakewoodites are coming together to take back our nation’s democracy and signal our opposition to the Supreme Court’s disastrous Citizens United decision.
As part of the national Move to Amend effort, we’re launching a petition drive to put an initiative on the November 2014 ballot stating that Lakewood voters want our state and federal representatives to support an amendment to the U.S. Constitution clarifying that corporations are not people and money is not speech.
CITIZEN INITIATIVE TO END CORPORATE PERSONHOOD AND MONEY AS SPEECH ON NOVEMBER BALLOT
[Cleveland Heights, OH] The Cleveland Heights City Council voted unanimously on August 5, 2013 to allow a citizen initiative to be placed on the November ballot. The initiative calls on Congress to pass a federal Constitutional Amendment to end corporate “personhood” and money as speech.
The initiative, if passed by voters, establishes an annual public hearing in Cleveland Heights to examine the impact of big money in politics on our democracy.
Call on Iowa’s decision-makers to reject unlimited spending in our elections and take a stand against corporate personhood and money as free speech. Join us for training on how to lobby decision-makers on this issue, speak out to your local legislators, participate in a media event releasing new information on election spending, and learn about opportunities to reclaim our democracy.
