We the People Day

Saturday, February 1, 2014 - 1:00pm - 3:00pm

Learn how Lakewoodites are coming together to take back our nation’s democracy and
signal our opposition to the Supreme Court’s disastrous Citizens United decision.

As part of the national Move to Amend effort, we’re launching a petition drive to put an initiative
on the November 2014 ballot stating that Lakewood voters want our state and
federal representatives to support an amendment to the U.S. Constitution clarifying that
corporations are not people and money is not speech.

(11/07/13) COLUMBUS, Ohio – Two Ohio communities are taking a stand against corporate political contributions.

Citizen initiative set for November ballot

[Cleveland Heights, OH]  The Cleveland Heights City Council voted unanimously on August 5, 2013 to allow a citizen initiative to be placed on the November ballot. The initiative calls on Congress to pass a federal Constitutional Amendment to end corporate “personhood” and money as speech.

The initiative, if passed by voters, establishes an annual public hearing in Cleveland Heights to examine the impact of big money in politics on our democracy.
