When people come out of prison, one of the most important keys to successful re-entry into the community is getting a job. Yet on many applications there is a check box "Have you ever been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony". If you check that box you can be pretty sure your application will go straight into the trash. The Ban the Box bill, (house 5507/senate357) would remove that question from applications and provide some basic protections from employment discrimination, as well as provide employers with some liability protection.
