About Iyyad Rayyan, AFSC Iowa Middle East Peace Intern

My name is Iyyad Rayyan from Ramallah-Palestine. I am a middle child among five siblings, which is a typical size for a Palestinian family. Since I was in the 9th grade, I started taking evening English courses to improve my language skills. Going away from home for college was something that I wanted to do since I was in high school.

Paul Maciel describes his AFSC internship and thoughts on life.

"Education is nothing without life experience," according to Paul Maciel, an intern with AFSC Iowa's Immigrants Voice Program in the spring of 2012. Paul is finishing his bachelor's degree in Political Science at Grand View University in Des Moines. Dillon Thornbury describes his Iowa internship

In this four-minute interview with AFSC regional staffer Jon Krieg, Dillon Thornbury describes what he learned about immigration while completing his service-learning project with the legal services component of AFSC's Iowa Immigrant Voice Program in Des Moines. A double major in psychology and Spanish at Central College, Dillon hopes to study immigration law in the future.

Mara Davidson, left, and Sara Crippen served as AFSC Iowa interns in the Spring of 2011. Mara helped revamp AFSC Iowa's social media presence, and Sara welcomed walk-in clients for AFSC's Immigrants Voice legal services program.
