Let's Follow the Money!

Lobbyists for private prison companies were omnipresent at the Special Legislative Session this year. Several prominent Republican legislators were outspoken advocates of prison privatization, arguing that private prisons are cheaper than the state. When the state Department of Corrections proved them wrong, they suddenly changed their tune. In the special session, they actually waived the statutory requirement that private prisons be cheaper than state prisons in order to get a contract. onder why some legislators are so motivated to privatize prisons? Check out the campaign contributions private prison companies gave them:

Corrections Corporation of America : Operates three facilities in AZ that are NOT contracted with the state. It appears likely that we will be sending up to 2,100 prisoners to one of their prisons in Oklahoma .
