AFSC - Asia

Tsunami in Asia

In December 2004, the world was shocked and saddened when a catastrophic tsunami killed more than 200,000 people and left some 5 million homeless in Southeast Asia. AFSC joined the worldwide relief and recovery efforts, and the response from our supporters was overwhelming: AFSC received more than $4 million in donations for work in Indonesia. As a result, AFSC was able to provide immediate relief to survivors and establish a long-term recovery program in Indonesia’s Aceh Province in northern Sumatra, where residents are also dealing with the trauma from decades of civil conflict.
