Search for New Presiding Clerk

Help us nominate a new clerk

The American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) has begun the search for a new Presiding Clerk of the Corporation and Board. We hope this person will be chosen by November 2008, serve as Assistant Clerk for a year and then become Clerk in November 2009. Paul Lacey will have completed 8 years as Clerk of the Corporation and Board in 2009. We are grateful for his dedicated service and leadership. He has given and continues to give unstintingly of his time and talents.

We would like names submitted by July 1, 2008.  The search committee will give thoughtful consideration to all names submitted. You can also help by holding our committee and our process in the Light.

The search committee would like to emphasize the following:

The nominee must be an active member of the Religious Society of Friends. He or she should have good clerking skills, be willing to listen, be able to delegate authority, and be committed to work with the General Secretary to accomplish the mission and maintain the health of the organization.  The AFSC conducts business in corporate worship seeking Divine guidance. The Presiding Clerk and the General Secretary are the primary spokespersons for AFSC. Thus, the Presiding Clerk should have excellent speaking and writing skills.  The AFSC is committed to affirmative action.  We would like the Clerk to have a measure of grace and humility.

The full job description is a daunting one and we realize the Clerk likely cannot do it all. Read the full job description.

AFSC work in the world is more challenging given the times we are living in but we are excited about the possibility of being more effective.

With gratitude,

Rich Van Dellen (Northern Yearly Meeting) for the search committee.

Other members: Judith Dancy (North Carolina Yearly Meeting, FUM), Petra Doan (South Eastern Yearly Meeting), Donald Gann (Baltimore Yearly Meeting), Dorothy Kakimoto (Western Association of Religious Society of Friends), Riley Robinson (Baltimore Yearly Meeting), David Stanfield (North Carolina Yearly Meeting, FUM), Ann Stromquist (Iowa Yearly Meeting Conservative), and Norval Thompson (Philadelphia Yearly Meeting)
